We get funding to provide some capacity-building services for free.

Voluntary Action Westminster is funded to provide free capacity building support to voluntary organisations in Westminster. Our capacity building work focuses on building the skills and knowledge of voluntary organisations. In capacity building, the approach isn’t to do something on behalf of an organisation, but to show them how to do it for themselves.

So, for example we wouldn’t offer to write a funding application on your behalf, but we would show you how to write a strong application of your own. All our capacity building services are free.

Some of our services don’t count as capacity-building, and because these aren’t funded, we need to charge a fee.

As well as capacity building, we provide a range of services where the emphasis is less on helping voluntary organisations to help themselves, and more on offering a hands-on service, where we do the work ourselves, on an organisation’s behalf.

None of these hands-on services is funded, so we need to charge a fee to cover our costs.
