The VAW health check is a structured way to evaluate your organisation’s current strengths and highlight areas of possible weakness.

The process moves at your pace as you decide when you can address any weaknessses and put the different pieces in place to take your organisation forward.

How the health check works:

• Call us to arrange a health check meeting with one of our support team
• Work through the health check framework (this takes around two hours)
• During the meeting, you’ll build up a development plan, based on areas of weakness that you’ve spotted
• The VAW support team will then be available, during the following few weeks and months, to offer hands-on support in putting the work plan into practice
• Congratulations! Once you’ve tackled the areas of weakness highlighted in your development plan, you’ve completed the health check.

How the health check helped the Westminster Muslim Welfare Trust

The Westminster Muslim Welfare Trust was referred to VAW by City Bridge Trust whose grants committee had recognised the Westminster Muslim Welfare Trust's potential, but had also seen weaknesses in their organisation and could not award them a grant. After making getting in touch, one of our Organisational Development Officers carried out a health check with them.

The group was unaware of Voluntary Action Westminster's free services and it was clear from the start that various needs could be met through these. Members of the organisation  participated in VAW's training courses, but they and VAW also recognised an urgent need to develop their knowledge of governance and employment law. Bespoke, intensive support was required. The Organisational Development Officer helped the group with their funding application to Grassroots Grants so that external funding could support them in developing their organisation. The application was successful, and the trustees of the group went on to participate in intensive consultancy and training that was designed specifically around their needs. It helped them to understand their liabilities and legal obligations.
