The Disability Law Service (DLS) is recruiting an Advice Service Coordinator. 17.5 hours a week. Salary £24,260 pro rata. Apply by 30 April 2012.
The Disability Law Service (DLS) is a national charity offering legal advice and representation for disabled people in the areas of Employment, Community Care, Welfare Benefits, Discrimination and Goods and Services.
The Advice Service Coordinator (ASC) will be the first point of contact for disabled people seeking advice on our telephone helpline, offering information, signposting or making appointments with our legal team where appropriate. The helpline is supported by a team of volunteers and led by a full time member of staff who coordinates calls and the volunteer team.
The successful candidate will have strong customer service skills, being able to deal with the DLS client base, which is diverse. Clients contacting DLS often have challenging problems they need support with and can be upset, worried or distressed. The ability to stay calm under pressure is vital.
Equally important is a familiarity with areas of advice that DLS work with. Training will be given, but the successful candidate will already have a strong grounding in these areas.
In addition the ability to take part in the work of the wider team is crucial. DLS has a small staff team so knowing how to work alongside volunteers, being able to fill in for staff on occasion and contributing to the wider workload of the team is an essential part of the role.
