Domestic violence project evaluator required

Consultant sought to evaluate Arabic-speaking domestic violence service.  Apply by 08 June.

The Domestic Violence Intervention Project (DVIP) is seeking a consultant to undertake an evaluation of its Arabic-speaking domestic violence service, Al-aman.

Set up in 2000, the DVIP Al-aman project is the only provider of specialist domestic violence services for the Arabic-speaking community in London. The project offers individual and group support services for women, provides a structured violence prevention programme for men, delivers training to voluntary and statutory organisations and undertakes outreach work within the community to improve awareness of domestic violence.

The closing date for applications is 08 June 2012.

Evaluation aims

  • To assess the needs within the Al-aman speaking community and the effectiveness of our services in meeting these needs
  • To analyse the overall impact of our services and awareness-raising outreach activities on service-users, the community and voluntary and statutory organisations.

Desired skills and experience

  • Demonstrable experience of evaluating and measuring the impact of community projects
  • An understanding of gender inequalities and of violence against women and its effects through the dynamics of power and control
  • Knowledge of the cultural and religious traditions and beliefs of Arabic-speaking communities
  • Arabic and English language skills
  • Knowledge of cost-benefit analysis
  • The ability to communicate clearly with a range of people both over the telephone and in person
  • An understanding of and a commitment to work in accordance with the confidentiality and equal opportunities policies of the organisation.

Timeline and location

The consultancy will take place in London between June and October 2012.

Budget

As a guide, the indicative budget available is £7,000 (maximum).  Value for money is a criterion of the evaluation.
